Re: Can't login to server during MacOS Client setup
Hi Martin...I can indeed ping the server without ".local" and it is added into domains as again. just "local" without the dot
So I try to add a connection to the server using the installation package...if I try selecting the server from the drop-down list...I get eh cert error as below
so I try again using just the server name and get eh the same response...
So I log onto the desktop, via Microsoft RDP app for MacOS and connect fine...and go into the cert setup
then try to reattach server via client and get the same cert error as before attempting both options
Again, this is not an option on Windows and was not an option prior to Catalina.....all windows clients connect without issue...however both of my two MacOS Catalina machines are having the identical issue even though search domains are set correctly...
I fear this could be an issue with MAcOS Catalina as there is also an issue connecting with Synology NAS'. If the synologyNASname.local is used they work fine...BUT even with local added as a search doman...ti is not possible to ping or connect to the Synology NAS without.local after the server name

Re: Can't login to server during MacOS Client setup
Some questions
1. Can you ping jaserver2 on Catalina?
2. Can you ping jaserver2.local on Catalina?
Please send me your Catalina logs. Open Finder, then click on menu go to, use folder /var/log. Then right click "lights-out-client" and select compress. Send the zip file as PM.
Thanks
Martin

Re: Can't login to server during MacOS Client setup
Indeed, the change with "local" is no longer working on Catalina (made the screen shots with Mojave). Have to look for another solution...
Will keep you informed.

Re: Can't login to server during MacOS Client setup
As a workaround for the time being please open a terminal and enter
sudo nano /etc/hosts
Then go to the bottom of the file and add a new line:
1.2.3.4 jaserver2
Replace 1.2.3.4 with the IP-Address of the server.
Save the file and try the ping again. Then connect the mac to the server using the name jaserver2.
Regards

Re: Can't login to server during MacOS Client setup
now tried this on both Catalina machines without luck
followed instructions and changed hosts files to include IP address and name of server...which can now be pinged without the .local suffix
however, when trying to add the server via the client... I still get the same issue re certs.
to be thorough..and not waste more of your time... I tried it with the server name in lowercase and uppercase..(cert setup on the server itself lists them in uppercase) but it makes no difference either way

Re: Can't login to server during MacOS Client setup
Here's a new test build:
https://www.green-it-software.com/downl ... 0.4617.exe
It adds support for .local domains. The workaround with /etc/hosts is no longer necessary and should be removed.
1. Install update on server
2. Recreate the SSL certificates on the server. This adds "server.local" as subject alternative name.
3. Download the macOS package on the Mac again and run it.
4. The server join will now first try "server" and then "server.local".
Regards
Martin

Re: Can't login to server during MacOS Client setup
You talk about the mobile app? If yes, please post here viewforum.php?f=98 and let that thread handle macOS Catalina.
Have you tried the latest build on Catalina?

Re: Can't login to server during MacOS Client setup
The logs are still missing the important part of the server join.
Can you please verify twice, that you zip the folder /var/log/lights-out-client and not individual files?
