Could not create SSL/TLS secure channel

Beitrag von xm4243 »

Hello,
Long time paid user of LIghts Out.

Recently I noticed V2 was out and decided to give it a try on another machine before buying new version for my primary machine which is running V1.6.

V2.01 worked flawlessly and so today I upgraded to V2.02 then disaster struck

I am unable to run Lights Out 2.02 because when I try to log on, I get the message "An error occurred...the request was aborted: Could not create SSL/TLS secure channel.

Thanks in advance.

Lots of views to my post but unfortunately no one appears to be able to help.

Since I needed a solution for the next few weeks, I uninstalled Lights Out V2.02 and re-installed V2.01. Everything appeared to work fine.

Will probably uninstall LIghts Out after my 30 day trial is up as I am looking for a robust solution that won't fail when I upgrade.

That's strange. Can you please open a ticket so I can analyze the issue?
https://www.green-it-software.com/osticket/

Please attach your server logs. Simply zip the whole folder c:\programdata\LightsOut2\Logs (via right click, send to compressed folder) and attach the archive to the ticket. If you do not see a folder c:\programdata, then open explorer options and enable "show hidden files and folders".

Sorry can't help you, my 30 day trial expired and I did not want to buy software that couldn't be upgraded to the stable version so I have removed the software from my system.

@xm4243: Lights-Out will still run (with a reduced feature set) after the trial has expired. So no need to buy a license.

Update 2.0.2 disables SSLv3 (unsecure) and enables TLS 1.1 and 1.2 protocols. The error message make me think that TLS is probably not enabled on your system.

Please download and run IIS Crypto GUI. Verify that TLS, TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 are enabled:
https://www.nartac.com/Products/IISCrypto/Download
You may also click on "Best Practices" and then reboot the system.

As noted above, I removed the software, logs etc so can't help you on that one. FYI, I am running W10 Pro on my computer.

Have you really removed c:\programdata\LightsOut2?
If not , please zip and send to support@green-it-software.com or open a ticket.

I stayed with this thread to help you fix your product (because I felt a loyalty to the V1.x product) but asking me the same damn question is hardly helpful.

The truth is that I was pretty pissed that your software left files on my computer when I uninstalled. Personally, I believe its pretty reprehensible when software developers leave crap on someone's PC. To me, uninstall means, get rid of everything you installed.

I MANUALLY deleted your leftovers after the install SO YES, I am really really really sure that I removed the program data and am now positive I made the right decision to remove the software.

FYI, had I not had to wait almost 3 days to respond to my initial post, I may not have removed the software.

Signing off this thread.

In case you still read it: The leftovers are the settings which are intentionally not deleted on uninstall to make an upgrade/update possible. This is by design.
User eric963 fixed the issue by uninstalling/reinstalling update 2.0.2.

I was able to analyze the issue on a customer machine. TLS 1.2 is working from outside (clients) but not internally. I can't tell what has happened here, maybe a registry key is missing or damaged.
If you are affected by this issue, please try this test build which contains a workaround:
https://www.green-it-software.com/downl ... 2.3545.exe

Happy Easter!
